Front Row Seats At The Bullfight (nb. couple pics may be upsetting)

Halo

Yesterday we started the day on the beach again, some pics below of Sonia in our beautiful beach and the kids in hotel pool, playing with the underwater camera

Then we headed off to the bullfight, at the Cancun equivalent of our MCG. Some of the pics Sonia took below are great quality, thinking of offering them to the local tourism authorities for postcards. Some on the other hand are a little gruesome.

After some pre bullfight entertainment (above) the event began. Three matadors entered to some fanfare and then the bull charged in. They fought with the bull for a brief period (few minutes) then a guy on a horse speared the bull in a main artery on its back which, even though we were warned, was a bit upsetting. This obviously weakens the bull and the matadors proceeded to fight with it in a very arrogant manner - at this point we were barracking for the bull.

After about 20-25 minutes the matador stabbed the bull with a sword and it died pretty quickly. To cap it off the matadors then cut off the bulls ears (below) and proudly wander around the ring displaying them to the crowd.

The bullfight was an experience and we do respect the traditions surrounding the event but would never go back to another one, would prefer a Carlton football game or an Oakland A's baseball game any day.

Best part of it was probably the $10 all you can drink deal, so Sonia and I had a few Cerveza's (beer's).

Got back to hotel and headed to one of the restaurant/mall strips for dinner. Had mexican again (not as good as the other night) following which we had a wander around and kids had their photo's taken with a little monkey (see below)

To close today's post thought we would finish with a return to our paradise for this week, our hotel apartment and our beach.

Were planning on swimming with the dolphins today but have re-booked for tomorrow because Samantha woke up with a sore throat, headache and fever so we may just take it easy, hop on a ferry over to an island just off Cancun for some retail therapy (it fixes everything). She is already feeling a little bit better.

Finally, we will be transferring to Playa Del Carmen on Saturday so we are all very excited to get to our next location, the Corto Maltes condominium right on the Carribean Sea in Playa. Still have a long "to do" list so Tour Captain has lot of work remaining (though I wouldn't really call it work).

Hombre Harvy out.

Was a little bit late reading your latest adventures in Mexico... it looks like you're having a lot of fun and a wonderful weather and a so beautiful blue sea.
Can you send a wagon of sun and warmth please? We just had snow here in Paris on Monday (anyone mentioned Spring??!) so I just want to go on a plane and take off to Mexico or Cancun right away.
If you can have me one of these Coconut drinks... a Pina colada would be perfect, thanks!!

Hi Sonia and family...Like Sabine I'm just catching up on the 'holidays events'..I have the 'Aged Ones' staying with me for a week so very little time to spend on the PC

It all sounds lots of fun except of course the bull fight...I went to one of these many years ago in Spain and yes I respect their traditions and ways but it's not for me..

We could do with some of your sun and warmth so if you have any to spare can you blow it our way..

Keep having fun and stay safe

Sonia I love the photo of the dancer...that is just stunning! I have been to Mexico and did not care for the Bull fights at all :( So sad!

Hope Sam is feeling better! Can't wait to see your next adventure!

Wow, I didn't realise they actually killed the bull! That is pretty gruesome, but yeah, I suppose you have to respect their traditions being in their country.
